How To Get More People To Follow You On Twitter

Alright, so you’ve decided to start building your business online. Great , that’s the first step .  But with all the information out there it can be  a little  overwhelming. And maybe you’re broke and don’t have much to invest. No problem .  I’m going to do a short series on the best way to begin marketing your business online- using completely free methods.  One note: everything that we cover is going to require one thing to be effective: consistency. These methods will NOT work if you only keep up with them for a couple of days or even a week.

And then I’m going to show you how to tie all these together for a truly effective strategy that if you follow it- is guaranteed to get you off and running.   the first tool we’re going to take a look at is twitter.

Here’s why : twitter is absolutely the hottest social media avenue out there right now, rivaling even the mighty Facebook. If you’re looking to establish a presence online, you need to working at building up a twitter base.

We’re not going to go through the set-up process, I don’t want to waste time.  It’s basically just putting in info like an email . However make sure you actually post a pic of yourself AND describe yourself in your bio. It doesn’t have to be long, just tell people a little about who are – or what you want to be. A lot of folks won’t even add someone without a bio or picture, so THIS STEP is actually pretty crucial.

First of all, recognize the market you want to reach . Adding every Moe , Harry , and Curly out there isn’t going to help you any if you have 10,000 followers who care nothing about what you have to offer. So find someone in your niche, click on their  “followers” and begin following them . A good example if your in network marketing might be Mike Dillard or Todd Falcone, two people who have respected names and lots of followers who happen to be in the same niche you are. Now to begin , I would recommend only adding about 50 people a day- you don’t want to get your account suspended before you’ve even gotten started. You could be more aggressive but you’ve been warned.

-get yourself signed up with Social Oomph or another service ( that one  i free )  and set up your account with some pre-made Direct Messages.  This way everyone that follows you gets a personal message, even if you don’t have time write each and every person. This will save you a lot of time and you can even set up messages to rotate so not everyone gets the same one.

Don’t know what  kind of message  to write ? Just make it something simple and invite them to get to know more about you, either on Facebook , your blog, or YouTube.

Next, to get more folks to want to follow you:

Be a useful twitterer. Don take up your share of room in the Twitterverse by telling us what kind of cereal you had for breakfast.

( Or dinner-who knows ?)

You want  what you post to be one of  three things : encouraging, enlightening or entertaining.If people find what you post helpful , they will continue to return and want to get to know more about you.  Now if you don’t have content of your own yet to tweet about- like your own blog or articles, here’s where to find some useful pieces.We’ll get into blogs in another piece, so for now-

-fark.com

-slate magazine ( it’s an online mag)

- different blogs

Don’t worry about using someone else’s content, just don’t claim it was yours. It’s like a vote of popularity for someone else so they should be complimented .

Or of course you can look up useful quotes and share those as well. people love to be encouraged.

Head over to tinyurl.com before you send out your tweets and shorten the links of your websites so people can read them. This only takes a second and again, is free.

Be consistent. Add 50 people a day and tweet at least two to three times a day. If you find something someone else has posted interesting, Re-tweet it and  then tell them why you thought it was cool.

Later, we can look at creating your own  content and  posting it as well.  This is where you’ll really begin to use twitter to promote your biz.

And the people who read your  tweets about your content are people who follow you  and  will actually be interested…

Finally, be personable with what you tweet, not a machine. Let people know why whatever it was you’re tweeting about was useful to you.

People want to communicate with others and build relationships, so keep that in mind.

And last but not least-  follow those who follow you. Everyone will appreciate this.
