I was just reading a post on a social network where people were commenting on what the purpose of having more money was for them. This echoed a sentiment I’ve been repeating for  awhile now;people don’t do things that are new or uncomfortable- like start a home business-just to have a larger number in a bank account.  People want to increase their capital because of what it means.

They want more freedom, more time, more ability to for what they really want.

Do You need To “Change Your Walk” ?


If you are reading this a month from now and find yourself declaring, “Hey,  I’ve read that before somewhere !” – you’re right you probably did. In my new book , “How to Get A Raise This Week: With or Without Your Boss’ Permission” . And if you did, then congratulations, because you are probably ow much smarter and a bit wealthier too. Alright no more playing around. Here’s a short excerpt on what we often need to change that perhaps we don’t even realize.

Change Your “Walk”

If you’re under the age of twenty-five you may not remember it but in the ninety’s there was a massively popular show titled “Friends”. In one particular episode one of the characters is sitting down seemingly deep in thought when he announces, “I think I need a new walk.” Everyone else in the room stares at the character, who then continues, “I’ve had the same walk since high school. You know how some people  walk in a room and everyone takes notice? I think I need a “take- notice” walk !”

Of course this isn’t to suggest a literal change to the way one walks but rather, if you’ve found yourself seemingly stuck in the same position for a lengthy period of time and want to change that —it’s time to shake things up !

You need a “new walk” !

You’ve heard the term “dress for success,” or that you should dress for the job you want, not the one you have, but one should also take a closer look at their surroundings. Specifically, who you surround yourself with. If you’ve been stuck in the same role for an extended period of time, consider branching out and either going to lunch with people outside your normal circle or even meeting them afterward for happy hour. It’s often said that your income will most likely match that of your five closest friends. Who are yours?

Studies have surprisingly shown that those who spend time associating with others after work earn significantly more than those who do not. Why is this the case? Maybe it’s time to expand your network and perhaps even make an impression on a superior who would not have noticed you otherwise.

It’s been said “The fastest way to get what you want is to find someone that already has it and do what they do.”

The fact is that people do business with those they know, like, and trust, and while many companies prefer to promote from within, you are more likely to be overlooked if you’re invisible outside of a small circle. This isn’t an instructive to become a glutton or suddenly binge on entertainment, but rather to open up and do things that might be outside of your comfort zone. If you’re sufficiently ambitious, you can find other ways of getting noticed outside the office.

As I mentioned earlier, new skills may need to be developed in order for you to get what you want. Learning to work with others, or developing new relationships, is a skill.

When Someone Isn’t Right For Your Business…

 

Last night I was picking a few things up from a convenience store and ran into the owner, who I’ve known for several years.  I live in a quaint Southern town where everyone knows everything about one another, and after chatting for a couple minutes, he asked the same question that’s been raised numerous times the last several months; “So I heard you sold your business. What’re ya gonna do now?” We recently sold a business in the area that was pretty well known , so I get this question a lot these days. And many people many in the area had no idea I even had a home business so you’d think this is the perfect opportunity to tell someone about and employ some kind of statement raising their interest right ? Correct. You’d also think a gentleman like this would be a perfect prospect for my business right ?  He’s well-known in the area, his business does fairly well and his wife has a great job and comes from a family of wealth. Perfect prospect right ? Not so fast.

 

 How To Know When Someone Isnt Right For Your Business...

Below are my 6 reasons they might not be right for your network marketing business- and then at the end I’ll share what happened with the rest of this conversation.

I have a step-by-step formula for MLM prospecting that simply works, but there are times when you take someone through all the steps but they still are not the type of person you should recruit into your MLM team. Here are 6 means to know a person is NOT someone you should recruit.

1. They spend colossal amounts of time telling you what they are going to do. It always seems the people who tell you how big they were, how well they have done in other MLM teams, or in life –never do anything. I am not saying not to recruit them but just don’t get caught up in the trap of their bulhonkey.

2. They blame others or a former company for their past mistakes. Now, this person may perform or they may not but they lack the traits of a real MLM leader. Blaming someone else or a past company isn’t the attitude you want in a leader.

3. They have unrealistic expectations. BEFORE I recruit someone I ask them how much do they want to make and how many hours are they willing to work per week. Most times they tell me they want to make $10,000 a month and only work 2-4 hours per week. I then ask them how many hours they are working at their job and ask them if they are making $10,000 a month with their job, this usually helps them realize they have unrealistic goals.

4. Massive skepticism. If they are skeptical, stop convincing them and instead take it away. Tell them it is not a fit for them, usually they will change their energy. Or tell them something like “If you don’t think you can do it, you probably can’t.” I love this technique by the way. It can completely change the tone of the conversation very quickly.

5. They be sponsor shopping. MLM sponsor shopping is when someone gets on the phone with multiple people, trying to see which one is going to be the right fit for them. The problem is, they are rarely producers and are looking for a  different sponsor rather than take the responsibilty upon themselves.

6. They are a jerk. Sometimes these people are good at what they do but they will also be a reflection on YOU. Plus , you have to decide if you want to spend your precious time with a person that is a jerk or whether you want to be around people that are encouraging and help build toward the overall strength of your team . I look for signs to rule someone OUT of my MLM team, and being a jerk is a key ingredient to getting yourself kicked out of my prospect list.

So to finish my story- can you guess which reason on the list the guy in question fell under to get kicked off my list ? That’s right- the last one. I already knew his reputation from people around town and from listening to his employees gripe about how underhanded he is…but just when I was thinking of making an exception- he reminded me of the things I didn’t like about him before. He talked so much about himself I never actually even got to answer his initial question. I wasn’t rude with this guy at this point. I thanked him , wished him a good night and left. There are plenty of people out there that you do want in your business, don’t waste your time with those you don’t.

You want people in your business that are interested in other people and helping them. In leaders. Because your team can be a reflection of your business- and you want your business to be viewed in a positive light.
